I bought a used chevy at saturn of gurnee, now this was my first attempt at buying a car from a dealership so I did not realise I was a perfect victum. When I bought the car they gave me the whole shpeal "it was last owned by an old lady probably sat in her garage etc.." I was told it would be "like owning a new car" because I was getting the 'gold' warranty. I was told the only thing the waranty did not cover was normal wear and tear, brakes tires etc.
Now the day I drove it off the lot the check engine light came on I asked if I could return it they said that I could not. I thought they were supposed to check those things before they sold you the car! I took it in for the light and they replaced a pcv valve which did not fix the problem. Then the next time I took it in they told me I would need to take it to a chevy dealership and pay them around $50 to check it out. Keep in mind they sold it to me with this problem and now I was supposed to pay to get it checked. At this time I had no money so I never got it checked.
Time passed ... Then maybee 2 years since I bought the car and a bunch off small things started beaking. The rearview mirror fell off the electric window switch was sticking, my blinker didnt blink etc... All of these small things were normal wear and tear I guess, becuse they were not covered under warranty. I mean rearview mirrors normally fall off, right?
More time passed... Now I am at the point where my waranty is almost up and there are a few problems I want to be fixed: My car shakes at a consistent speed of around 60, It rattles near the front tire when I stop, My defrost is busted, and my cruise dosent work. I took it in and told them this, and I also let them know a machanic (from somewhere else) told me he thought the rattle when I break was the control arms. They fixed my surpentine belt, (which I was told was still the original one that came with the car, and should be replaced every 60,000 miles. Funny because I bought the car from them with 79,000 miles on it. Shouldn't this have been replaced before they sold it to me?) Thy fixed my vacume hoses, they fixed a leak they found near the top of the engine, and they replaced some ball joints I belive in the front. I took it home driving with my brights on because the one headlight that was working when I brought it to them was not when I got it back. All that was fixed was the defrost and the cruise. I planned to take it back the next weekend to tell them. Within that week my car began making a clicking sound right after I start it, a humming sound when it was idling, and I noticed a bolt was missing near the engine. During the week I had the breaks and roters replaced in the front so they could not claim the noise in the front to be the brakes.
I took it back in and told them; Its still shakes at 60 and rattles when I stop, Its clicking when I start it and it hummes when it idles, oh and by the way I think you left off a bolt near the engine. Then they proceded to replace the Control arms in the front, (funny becuse I told them I thought it was the control arms the first time) and the strutts, along with the alternator, and they put the bolt in where it was missing. The shaking at 60 they blamed on old tires and they clamed that all cars make the clicking sound when they start, mine was just getting louder because it was old. Ok so I took it home and it still clicks when I start it (thats normal), and shakes at 60 (Thats my tires, so I'm told). now a new thing stars happening a hose near my engine is leaking what looks like antifreese causing steam to come off my engine after I drive it.
So I took it in with four problems 2 weeks ago, and now, about 9 repairs later, I have it back with three problems. Now how does that work out.
All I have to say I's it's funny that I have to pay for repairs that do not fix the problem they were supposed to fix. And It's kind of suspicious that every time I take it there to have something fixed I get it back with a new problem.
oh and to this day my check engine light still comes on when I drive it. And I'm taking a wild guess that when I replace the tires the car will still shake at 60.
ps Just so you know a $50 dollar deductable doesn't mean the most you will pay is $50 for a problem under waranty, because they charge you $50 per group. for example an electrical problem and a stearing problem will cost $100, because they are two seperate groups.
